August 22nd News Update!

Hello again!!! Welcome back to school!
I hope each of you had a very relaxing and a FUN track out! Now it's time to get back to work and really dig into First Grade! I had an eventful vacation to Costa Rica to visit friends, but I must admit - I'm ready to see my fabulous Ladybugs and officially "begin" our First Grade experience! Here we go!!!!

I would like you to look over the First Quarter Smart Goals. (We will be working hard to accomplish each of these goals within the next couple of weeks.)
· Reading: First graders will be able to blend one syllable words (CVC).
· Math – First graders will be able to compose and decompose numbers 1-10.
· Writing – First graders will be able to use more than one thought or phrase in their writing.

This week we will be working on:

· Daily 5 – We will review and rebuild our stamina for Read to Self and Work on Writing.
· Reading – We will work on recognizing consonants m, s, c, t and the sounds they represent. We will also review the short a and blending short a words.
· Math - We will continue Unit 1 in Math Expression, “Early Number Activities.” We will continue to work on our numbers 1-10 and recognize various shapes.
· Writing - We will continue to work on our handwriting, learning to write more difficult words, draw with more detail, and write with 1-2 complete thoughts.
· Social Studies – We will finish Unit 1, “Meeting People” and discuss the importance of accepting others and respecting differences.

Hello parents! As I said in the newsletter, we have been very BUSY Ladybugs in our classroom! I have really enjoyed getting to know your children this past week and know for a fact that this year will be AWESOME!
I would like to apologize for my school email lately. There was an issue with WCPSS, but they resolved it and it is now working again. Please feel free to contact me anytime via email at kseymour2@wcpss.net

Ladybug News:
This week we are working hard to -
· Continue to develop strong and trusting relationships with each other

· Review and practice classroom rules and routines as well as organizational skills
· Finish our ALL ABOUT ME book

Welcome to First Grade!

FUN IN FIRST GRADE!

Welcome to first grade! I am VERY excited to work with your children and to learn all about their interests and favorite subjects in school! This is my second year teaching first grade, and my third year teaching! I thoroughly enjoy the daily interactions with children and the adorable things that they say! I look forward to another year of learning from my students, hearing silly jokes, and making learning creative and fun!

I will do my best to update this blog every week with the following information:

  • Weekly HF and Spelling Words
  • Monthly Calendar
  • Classroom and DRES news
  • Homework assignments
  • Educational websites to visit with your children
  • And other exciting, informative ideas :)
